Welcome to Little Morton Farm
Would you believe that Little Morton Farm today started many years ago when Tom and Diane were children. The lessons in their childhood prepared them for what lies ahead.
Tom, a young boy started with a few chickens selling his eggs to his friends, neighbours and teachers. He soon had the bug and was planning an enterprise when he should have been listening to his teachers.
Meanwhile, Diane, a farmers daughter stood on the top of a windy moor with the rain lashing down as 50 stampeding cattle come hurtling towards her with one aim in mind “knock her over and escape!!” is thinking “when I grow up I will NEVER marry a farmer!!”
Oh how things change!
The partnership began in 2001 when a chance meeting turned into true love. Taking a dilapidated unloved farmhouse and an overgrown jungle or is that garden we couldn’t tell!! With a lot of hard work it slowly began to resemble Little Morton Farm today. I must add it is an ongoing project and I’m never quite sure what is coming next. Tom’s vision is admirable but can be a little overwhelming (plate spinning springs to mind, however would be a doddle compared to this!)
Little Morton Farm incorporates “Poplar Poultry” the business Tom dreamed up while in his History lesson. This has grown from strength to strength with the popularity of families keeping a few chickens in their back garden and the addition of Forsham Cottage Arks
To follow the tradition of his Grandfather, Tom took on the butcher’s shop. A relatively new addition to the business it is extremely rewarding to be raising standards and providing top quality meat and produce to the community.
Our newest addition to the business is “Bidgiemire Pig Arcs” which sprang up from keeping a few pigs ourselves. Our Mummy Pig Lily a Gloucestershire Old Spot sparked an idea (see what I mean… the vision!) and Ta! Da! Welcome Bidgiemire Pig Arcs.
With the addition of sheep, ducks, bees, dogs, cats and goodness knows what next (although the rumblings are table chickens and some cattle - hopefully friendly ones!) Little Morton Farm is taking shape!
As the less appealing side to farming fades to a distant memory the dream of self sufficiency is taking hold. If you would like to visit the farm we would love to see you and share ideas. We are hoping to set our farm up as inspiration to others so come along and see the arks on display, our vegetable garden and all of our animals!
See you soon,
Tom and Diane
